Getting to Guardalest from Orba Costa Blanca Spain

The drive from the villa in Orba to Guardalest takes around 50 minutes by car. Its not very far as the crow flies around 17 kms, but it traverses up and down the mountains ranges and through some very quaint villages along with some amazing views and scenes, a camera is a must.

The best time to go to  Guadalest is out of the tourist season if you can, as you will have more time to visit the museums and stroll around or simply have lunch  and watch the world go by.

Location; Approximately 25 kilometers inland from Benidorm along CV-70 road.

A bit about Guadalest;

Surrounded by the Aitana, Serella & Xorta Mountains the village was a strategic military stronghold with fortifications, dating back to 715AD and the period of Moorish occupation of Spain

The town grew up around the fortress,originally the population lived within the protection of the castle walls. The castle can only be entered by one small tunnel cut through the rock at the San Jose gate. The area inside the walls includes the ancient city dungeon, the bell tower, Saint Josep castle, the Orduna House, parish church and the Moorish fortified building called Alcozaiba.

The river Guadalest flows through the area and has been dammed to form a spectacular  reservoir below the town.

Guadalest has now been declared a 'Monument of Historical and Artistic Value' and is a major tourist attraction in Spain.
